Course Objectives

Successful students in this course will:

1. View and study a diverse selection of films from around the world.
2. Become familiar with some of the key venues and dynamics of movie-making outside of the United States.
3. Become more literate and informed viewers of films.
4. Discover new ways to find interest and meaning in films.
5. Learn about other cultures around the world through encounters with cinematic art.
6. Understand some of the ways world cinema participates in the process of cultural globalization.
7. Analyze ways that the dynamics of globalization are represented in world cinema.
8. Develop skills in writing about film, film criticism, and ideas about both film and globalization.
9. Learn to collaborate on film analysis by participating actively in the discussions of a classroom community.
10. Learn to consider ethical issues of both film and globalization through the lens of Christian faith.
